These terms cover your use of the Citizenship iOS app. By using the app you accept them. If you do not, please stop using the app.
What the app does
Citizenship reads provenance information that files carry — cryptographic Content Credentials (C2PA), plaintext declarations such as China's GB 45438 AIGC labels and IPTC metadata, and openly readable watermarks — and reports what it found, together with how much weight each finding carries.
The limits of a result — please read this part
A result describes a file. It never describes a person. The app makes no statement about who created something, whether anyone acted dishonestly, or whether a claim is true.
The app cannot determine whether content is AI-generated. It can only report evidence a file carries, and that evidence is frequently absent.
- "No AI indicators found" is not a finding of authenticity. Most sharing, re-saving, and screenshotting strips provenance. An empty result is the expected outcome for a great many genuine and AI-generated files alike.
- Declarations and watermarks can be forged or removed. Only the signed layer is tamper-evident, and even a valid signature proves who signed a file and that it has not changed since — not that what it depicts is real.
- A camera signature does not prove what the camera was pointed at. A signed photograph of a screen is still a signed photograph.
- Absence of a watermark proves nothing. The app reads only openly documented schemes; most commercial watermarks cannot be read by any third party.
- Trust lists change. A signature considered valid today may be reported differently later if a certificate is revoked. Results are a snapshot of the moment they were made.
Do not use results as proof
Results are informational. They are not legal evidence, not a forensic examination, and not a basis on which to accuse anyone of anything. Do not rely on them for legal, journalistic, employment, academic-misconduct, safety, or financial decisions without independent verification. Where a matter is consequential, consult a qualified professional and obtain the original file from its source.
Your responsibilities
- Only check files you have the right to access.
- Do not present a result as something it is not — in particular, do not describe an empty result as confirmation that a file is genuine.
- Do not use the app to harass, defame, or accuse.
No warranty
The app is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy of results. Provenance standards, watermarking schemes, and trust lists evolve independently of this app, and support for them may change or break.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for any damages arising from use of the app or from reliance on its results — including decisions made, or not made, on the basis of a verdict. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, in which case those exclusions may not apply to you.
Open-source components
The app includes third-party open-source software under permissive licences. The full texts are in the app under Settings ▸ Open-Source Licenses.
Cost and accounts
The app has no accounts, no subscriptions, and no in-app purchases. Checking a file is performed entirely on your device; the app additionally sends anonymous usage statistics, described in the privacy policy.
Changes
These terms may be updated as the app changes; the date above reflects the current version. Continuing to use the app after an update means you accept the revised terms.

本应用做什么

结论的局限——请务必阅读
结论描述的是文件，绝不描述人。本应用不对内容由谁创作、 是否有人存在不诚实行为、或某项主张是否属实作出任何判断。
本应用无法判定内容是否由 AI 生成。 它只能报告文件所携带的证据，而这些证据经常是缺失的。
- 「未发现 AI 痕迹」不等于认定内容真实。大多数分享、另存与截图都会剥离溯源信息。 对于大量真实以及 AI 生成的文件而言，空结果都是意料之中的。
- 声明与水印可被伪造或移除。只有签名层可发现篡改； 而即使签名有效，也只能证明文件由谁签署、且此后未被修改——并不能证明其所呈现的内容属实。
- 相机签名无法证明相机拍摄的对象。对着屏幕拍摄的照片，依然是一张有签名的照片。
- 读不到水印不能说明任何问题。本应用只读取公开记录的方案； 多数商业水印无法被任何第三方读取。
- 信任列表会变化。今天被判定有效的签名，若证书日后被吊销，结论可能不同。 结论只是作出当时的快照。
请勿将结论用作证据
结论仅供参考。它不是法律证据，不是司法鉴定，也不能作为指控他人的依据。 在未经独立核实的情况下，请勿据此作出法律、新闻、雇佣、学术不端、安全或财务方面的决定。 事关重大时，请咨询有资质的专业人士，并向来源方索取原始文件。

- 只检测你有权访问的文件。
- 不要把结论说成它本不是的东西——尤其不要将空结果描述为文件真实的证明。
- 不得利用本应用进行骚扰、诽谤或指控。
免责声明
本应用按「现状」提供，不作任何明示或默示的保证，包括适销性、特定用途适用性与结论准确性。 溯源标准、水印方案与信任列表的演进独立于本应用，相关支持可能变更或失效。
责任限制
在法律允许的最大范围内，开发者不对因使用本应用或依赖其结论而产生的任何损害承担责任—— 包括基于结论作出或未作出的决定。某些司法辖区不允许特定的责任排除， 在该等情形下相关排除条款可能对你不适用。
开源组件

费用与账号
本应用没有账号、订阅或应用内购买。文件检测完全在你的设备上完成； 此外应用会发送匿名的使用统计，详见隐私政策。

本条款可能随应用更新而修订，上方日期代表当前版本。更新后继续使用即表示接受修订后的条款。
